What happens to transparency?
PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPG cannot, so transparent areas become white.
Why is a checkerboard still visible in my JPG?
Some images contain a gray and white checkerboard as ordinary pixels rather than real transparency. Converting to JPG fills only truly transparent areas with white; it cannot remove a checkerboard already drawn into the source image.
Does converting reduce quality?
JPG and WebP are exported at a high quality setting. Re-encoding a lossy image can still change some pixels.
