How it works
Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image from your device.
Keep YouTube Thumbnail selected, then drag the image in the 16:9 preview to position the subject and any text.
Select Resize Images and download the finished 1280 × 720 JPG.
Why use this tool
A thumbnail often starts as a photo, screenshot, or design with a different aspect ratio. This tool creates the standard 1280 × 720 canvas without stretching the image and lets you decide which part remains visible. Processing stays in your browser, so the selected image is not uploaded to ImgZelo servers.
Build for a 1280 × 720 frame
YouTube thumbnails use a 16:9 aspect ratio, and 1280 × 720 pixels is a practical full-size target. Starting with a reasonably large source helps faces, product details, and lettering remain clear after export. A smaller image can still be resized, but enlarging it cannot restore detail that was not present in the original.
Keep the main subject away from the extreme edges. Thumbnail layouts can appear at many sizes, from a television interface to a narrow mobile feed, so a simple focal point usually reads better than several small elements. If the source contains text, leave breathing room around it and check the crop preview before downloading.
Resizing and cropping solve different problems
Resizing changes pixel dimensions. Cropping changes which part of the image is visible. To fill a 16:9 thumbnail without distortion, ImgZelo scales the source proportionally and crops any excess from the longer side. It never forces the image into a stretched shape.
The first preview uses a centered crop. Drag the image horizontally or vertically wherever extra image area is available, or use Center, Top, and Bottom as quick starting positions. The downloaded file uses the same crop position shown in the preview, so check that faces, captions, logos, and other essential details remain inside the frame.
Choose JPG, PNG, or WebP thoughtfully
JPG is a sensible source for photographs and is also the download format produced by this resizer. PNG is useful when the original contains sharp interface graphics or transparency, while WebP can provide good quality in a compact source file. Because resized results are exported as JPG, transparent areas in a PNG or WebP source are placed on white.
For a finished thumbnail with text and graphics, inspect the downloaded JPG at full size before uploading it to YouTube. If the file is still larger than a publishing workflow allows, use the image compressor after resizing rather than repeatedly resizing the same image.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?
Use 1280 × 720 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio. This page selects that size automatically and exports a JPG.
Will my image be stretched?
No. The image keeps its original proportions. Extra area is cropped when the source ratio does not match 16:9.
Can I choose the crop position?
Yes. Drag the image in the preview or use Center, Top, and Bottom. The export follows the position shown in the preview.
Can I upload PNG or WebP?
Yes. JPG, PNG, and WebP sources are accepted. The resized thumbnail is downloaded as JPG, and genuine transparency becomes white.
Are thumbnail images uploaded to ImgZelo?
No. Images are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to ImgZelo servers.
